Start with why

I am reading a really interesting book at the moment called Start with Why by Simon Sinek, and one of the core messages is that it doesn’t matter what you do but it does matter why you do it.

This has really got me thinking (or re-visiting) about my core values and my initial reasons why I started teaching yoga.

Enter into any yoga class and the more classes you attend, the more you realise that all yoga teachers have their own amazing gifts and unique perspectives to share. Lying underneath that energy, that demo-ing of a pose or guidance into relaxation will be some sense of purpose, a reason why that teacher decided to complete their foundation training.

For me, yoga teacher training was a significant step on my ongoing path of loving myself; loving my physical body as well as observing my mind to dig beyond that routine of ‘work-play-sleep-repeat’ that can so easily engulf us. Every day I continue to learn about the parts of myself which feel stuck or stagnant somehow and I use yoga to shift something, even if I don’t know what it is.

So it is this I wish to share, this understanding of yoga that it’s not just an image or posture based practice, and it’s not about a teacher knowing more than you. This is simply a practice of connection to self, and undoing many layers of ‘shoulds’ and ‘can’ts’. Perhaps seeing the possibilities of ‘what ifs’ and ‘maybes’. This bright light that shines within all of us ✨
